Mónica Moreno

As a multidisciplinary artist, Mónica works with a wide array of materials and processes. She most often incorporates a form of sculpture or jewelry-making into her art, although, for her, jewelry and sculpture go hand in hand. Being a tactile person, Mónica finds satisfaction in the smoothness or roughness of metal, the tackiness of papier mâché clay, and the dusty layer that natural clay leaves on her hands. She often finds it necessary to marry more than one of these materials into one piece. Her sculptural work attempts to capture human emotion, a feeling that is difficult or impossible for her to describe in words. She does this by playing with the human anatomy, manipulating it with texture, and misshaping it slightly. Through all things that Mónica makes, her goal is to search for beauty in even the toughest of emotions and hard-to-understand human behaviors and to encourage caring, inclusion, and compassion for people. “The ability to create is the greatest gift that I have been given. It is yours too." ~ Mónica Moreno

Having begun her art journey most notably as a dancer, Mónica performed and choreographed for colleges and small theatre companies in Los Angeles. While dancing she studied audio production, video production, and graphic design.
Much later, Mónica found a deep passion for metalwork and mixed media sculpture, which she is presently focused on; although the digital skills that she has acquired also make it into much of her practice. You can often find her fixated on learning a new skill that she may incorporate in some way in a future piece. This habit most definitely makes it easy for her to create almost anything that she may dream up. Additionally, Mónica believes it is important to share your knowledge with other seekers. She has therefore taught and mentored young adults through Los Angeles non-profit organizations and others she comes across.
