The California state-wide “shelter-in-place” order during the Covid19 Pandemic summoned past spectres of the AIDS epidemic that haunted me as a young man. During the height of Covid19, someone left a copy of The Book of the Dead on my doorstep, and through it, I relived the fascination for Ancient Egypt that I had experienced as a young child. I began experimentations to fuse my own past and present anxious loneliness to these hypnotic and bewildering protocols surrounding Egyptian deathliness.
My submitted work to ArtOut 2022 utilizes rendering, photographic, and printmaking methods to construct a neo-Egyptian aesthetic that seeks to make sense of the chaos that has been the Covid19 Pandemic.
