I aim to show the inner through the bold, rough and rugged exterior." Justin Sears is an American painter and contemporary artist living in Treasure Island, Florida. With a style that can be described as mono-chromatically bold; lines, colors and brawny textures hint back to his past education of illustration on a much larger scale.
After graduating from the University of South Florida in 2012 with a degree in drawing, I moved to New York City and began to learn to paint. I have always been drawn to large scale paintings, so in my studio apartment in Brooklyn I began to create 6 foot, 7 foot, 8 foot and even 12 foot paintings. During this time I was also attending the Fashion Institute of Technology to pursue my love for sewing and patternmaking.
In 2020 I was hired by the City of St. Petersburg, Florida to create the “Rainbow Chain” mural on 1st Avenue South and 20th Street South, which has since inspired my pursuit to create public-art.
