Film ‘HOMOPERSPECTIVES’ was premiered at the exhibition ‘Queer Photography: A Non-Definitive Survey’ at the Ledward Centre, Brighton (UK) and in 2022 it will be screened at ‘ArtFest 22’ at Jacob’s University, Bremen (Germany) and at ‘The Queer Archive Festival’, Athens, Greece).
Stiofan O’Ceallaigh is a multimedia artist and curator born in Ireland. In 2002 he was awarded First Class Honours in Fine Art from the University of Liverpool (UK). In 2016 he established Queer art project Balaclava.Q: a not-for-profit which strategically connects, promotes and creates platforms for LGBTQ+ artists globally via curatorial projects, the most recent is book ‘UN//TITLED An Anthology of Queer Contemporary Art’ (published 2021). His work has been reviewed and featured in Artillery magazine, Inspirational magazine, DAZED DIGITAL and OUT.COM.
He is currently exhibiting between the USA and Europe. Recent exhibitions include: DISLOCADA Film Festival, Philadelphia (USA), ‘Vindplaats’ at Heemstede Town Hall, Haarlem (The Netherlands), ‘Love In The Time of Cholera’ at Clifford Chance, Canary Wharf, London (UK), and ‘Gaze on Tour’ presented at the Irish Film Institute, Dublin (Ireland) and at the New York Irish Center (USA).
O’Ceallaigh’s work is a personal journey which seeks to emancipate the viewer by promoting discourse around areas such as Queer art censorship, HIV, the body politic and internalised stigma/shame > pride – an effort to reduce hate… in all its forms.
