The ArtOUT 2023 international juried art show seeks creative expressions of the experiences, representations, identities, and/or politics of LGBTQ+ people. This year’s theme is Emergence, in the myriad ways it takes place. The definition below may serve as a starting point.

e·mer·gence

/əˈmərjəns/

noun: emergence

  • 1. the process of coming into view or becoming exposed after being concealed.

  • 2. the process of coming into being, or of becoming important or prominent.

All submissions must be the original work of the artist. Artists must submit a brief bio and a statement to accompany their submission explaining how their work reflects the theme, Emergence. Biographies and statements will be published alongside artworks selected for the exhibition.

The exhibition will be virtual as well as in-person. We welcome artistic submissions including, but not limited to, paintings, drawings, mixed media, 2D and 3D art pieces, photography, digital art, video/recorded performance art, music submissions, etc. While ArtOUT aims to receive a diverse range of interpretations on this year’s theme, sexually explicit content is prohibited. ArtOUT reserves the right to accept or reject all submissions.  Artists must submit their pieces by April 17, 2023.

Artists must agree to waive liability for damage to or loss of the artwork during the exhibition. Any sales of art in the exhibition must be conducted directly between the artist and buyer; the LGBTQ Resource Center and the Gulfport Public Library may not act as intermediaries. Funding is NOT available for shipping of pieces, however, artwork that is not on-site may be selected to be part of the virtual exhibition.
