Linda Livingston

Linda's Mother took her to shop at JoAnn’s fabrics when she was 10 years old. This was a joyful time when she learned how to decide colors, textures, and patterns in fashion and design.

She completed her college degrees in Psychology and Interior Design to become a successful entrepreneur. She worked with clients in many art mediums including fabrics, paints, beads, dyes, knitting, and stitching. She focuses on color and techniques while inventing bags and home items that are attractive and useful.

The learning process in her art makes productive contributions of beauty and inspiration that feeds her motivation to continue seeking that sense of purpose and play for her happy clients.

Title/Medium: Peace and Pride [Fabric]

Bowls historically serve as functional and decorative items.  The current iteration of bowls made of fabric strips of cotton fabric wrapped around a cotton cord is then machine stitched with the soul of each artist who shapes and shares it out into the world. Fabric colors are selected to represent the message and energy of the piece. The light colored Pride theme addresses the larger issue of peace in the world. Embellishments further highlight the focus and choices in the creation. Ultimately a connection is made that speaks to the viewer and the artist.

Learning to sew at 10 years old was the start of my journey to creating art.

At 2, I came from New Jersey with my Mother to St. Petersburg where I grew up. My travels took me around the U.S., to Italy, France, Switzerland, Greece and South Africa. I returned to St. Petersburg to share my love of color and my fabric collections. While working, I completed my degrees in Psychology and Interior Design. I had my own Interior Design business serving both residential and commercial interiors. I specialized in restaurants, nursing homes, offices and residences. I currently make functional objects called Fabric Pottery.

I belong to the Tampa Bay Surface Design Guild where artists gather to learn and share their fabric creations. My pieces are sewn together by machine and by hand with fabric, cording, glues, dyes, and various embellishments. I plan to make larger pieces as sculpture. The themes used are client’s requests for coordinating colors to interiors and my own selections from incredible fabric designs. My concentration in Pride colors allows me freedom to serve my gay community with a sense of purpose and play, with peace and love.
