Artist Jones

My works are explorations of the stories and hidden influence of character and legacy for each subject through a bold reference set against a dynamic background. I share my findings by capturing them in a single moment of their life, drawing viewers in to experience these stories through a new lens.

Artist Statement about the Piece (s) Submitted
Title/Medium: YeMA(R)Ya [Acrylic]

"This painting represents the fight of Black slaves struggling to keep their culture and religious beliefs in a time where Christianity was forced upon them. The slaves would us some of the Christian figures as representations of their Orishas. This painting is of Yemaya, the goddess of the sea and mother of all living things, as Mary."

As the great-great granddaughter of famous Chester County painter, Ida Ellen Ruth Jones, my work draws from a distinct family history of diverse creativity and cultural pride. At an early age I began illustrating and quickly became aware that art would be the lifeblood of my future. My family often traveled across the world which allowed me to draw artistic perspectives from many cultures and lifestyles.
